Presenting baritone Thomas Florio – Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
The Music at Messiah Concert Series is thrilled to present internationally acclaimed baritone Thomas Florio on May 11th at 7 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church in Madison. Thomas has performed across Europe as both a concert artist as well as on the operatic stage, appearing with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra national de Lorraine, Berlin Philharmonic, and the Oslo Philharmonic, among others. This is a free community concert and will include vocal works by Finzi, Chabrier, as well as the Vaughan Williams “Five Mystical Songs.” Donations to the series are welcome at the door.

The Music at Messiah Concert Series is excited to present baritone Thomas Florio in our upcoming May 10 concert at 7 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Madison, Alabama. Donations at the door support the Music at Messiah Series and their mission to feature professional musicians and vocalists for the community to enjoy. He will be accompanied by Melanie Payne. A reception will follow the concert with an opportunity to meet this artist.

Florio has a highly engaging and textured vocal concert featuring Gerald Finzi’s “Let Our Garlands Bring,” light-hearted songs by Emmanual Chabrier, including “Villanelle des Petits Canards, and songs by Fanny Mendelson. The concert will conclude with “Five Mystical Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
About the Artist:
American baritone Thomas Florio has performed opera and chamber music across Europe with the Paris Philharmonic, Opéra national de Lorraine, Oslo Philharmonic, Staatsoper Hamburg,Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin Philharmonic, Turku Music Festival, and others. In particular, his interpretation of Peter Maxwell Davies’ Eight Songs for a Mad King as “peerless” (NRC Handelsblad), “a grand master of using his voice” (Hufvudstadsbladet), and “vocalism seamlessly combined with physical expression” (Rondo Classic).
In addition to his work on stage, Thomas is a Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Berlin. He has held workshops on IFS with training programs including the Staatsoper Hamburg Opera Studio and the Royal Danish Opera Academy, where he uses the compassionate, non-pathologizing principles of IFS to help young artists turn their fiercest inner critics into their greatest artistic strengths.
